Laish

Laish is an old word meaning the tribe of Dan. Laish is also the given name for Daniel Green and company’s musical outlet. Green has been making himself useful amongst the Willkommen Collective, Brighton and London’s alternative folk scene. He plays drums and sings with the progressive folk behemoth, Sons of Noel and Adrian, as well as occasionally lending his talents to Laura Marling, Alessi’s Ark, The Leisure Society, The Climbers, Shoreline, OCDC, Curly Hair, Redwood Red, Rowan Coupland and Kopek.

Laish play honest, humble, humourous and uplifting songs. Daniel’s distinctive voice is joined by an inventive fingerpicking style, unusual vocal harmonies, violin, melodica, rumbling bass and rattling drums. The band that has sprung forth features Ben Gregory and Mike Miles from Curly Hair on rhythm section, violin by folk singer Jo Burke and vocals by Cathy Cardin from Sons of Noel and Adrian and Redwood Red.

An album has been completed with nine songs for release on Willkommen Records. 2010 has already seen Laish support Grizzly Bear and Beach House at the Roundhouse; do an eight date UK tour in April with Kristin McClement, and a ten date tour of Germany, Switzerland and Belgium in May with Sons of Noel and Adrian.

A few nice words from people with pens:

Best Live Band Seen This Week….electro-folk innovators….Daniel Green’s sublime vocals…honest soulful and gimmick free (NME)

Pure people music for the soul…folk of the kind that raises heart rates and quickens pulses. (Source Magazine)
