Rowan Coupland is back with an absolutely incredible new self-released EP. You can stream or download it on a pay-what-you-like basis from his bandcamp page or even just listen below.

The songs are written about and during Rowan’s stay in Paris. He’s now over in Vancouver for a while, so get in touch with him if you live in the area on rowancoupland(at)gmail.com.

Laish video and free download for “She Is Clever”

Laish have published a video for live favourite “She Is Clever”, made by the incredibly talented Matt Dreyer.

The track is available as a free mp3 download from the Laish page at Bandcamp from 5th December, the first single from the forthcoming album, Obituaries, due for release in May 2012.

Go and see them support Peggy Sue at The Haunt in Brighton tomorrow.

Just a quick note to recommend some great gigs coming up this weekend.

On Friday our friends at Shhh! promotions are putting on a Fence Collective double header at The Hobgoblin in Brighton featuring Withered Hand and Rozi Plain. Further details are all here.

Then on Saturday Rachael Dadd is playing at the annual Apple festival at Middle Farm near Lewes. Rachael plays at midday and then you can tuck in to the cider for a few hours.

As if that were not enough, Mary Hampton is launching her exceptional album Folly in London on Sunday at Cecil Sharp House. The Brighton launch show was phenomenal so don’t miss this – plus you get Rachael Dadd supporting. You can hear the debut single from the album using the embedded YouTube video above.

Willkommen Collective covers album and upcoming Laish shows

Danny from Laish (etc) is organising a Willkommen Collective Covers album to be available as a download from bandcamp. It promises to feature tracks of other Willkommen Collective songwriters performed by Laish, Peggy Sue, Dancehalls, Kopek, Kristin McClement, Martha Rose, Animal Magic Tricks, Birdengine and many many more! Willkommen show at the Silver Bullet with Rachael Dadd, Rozi Plain, Eyes & No Eyes and Dancehalls

We’re doing a show for the Label Love project, which is raising money for independent labels that lost all their stock in the recent fire at the PIAS warehouse during the riots. Which sadly includes us and our very good friends Broken Sound.

We have a fantastic lineup featuring four bands from the increasingly convergent Broken Sound / Willkommen gangs: Rachael Dadd, Rozi Plain, Eyes & No Eyes (formerly Tristram) and Dancehalls (formerly Curly Hair). The gig is on the 5th September.

Expect plenty of cross-pollination. The gig is at The Silver Bullet in Finnsbury Park, details and tickets from here.

In other news, Dancehalls are fantastic and have a new EP available for your ears on their bandcamp page. And Rachael Dadd’s new album is a MASTERPIECE.

Tristram change their name to Eyes & No Eyes and support on Peggy Sue’s album release tour

Tristram have changed their name to EYES & NO EYES to reflect their move from a solo project to a full band. They are currently recording a new single and playing a few shows, including a short tour with Peggy Sue in September:

12th – London Lexington (no Eyes & No Eyes, Peggy Sue only, their album launch show)

14th – Winchester Railway

15th – Bristol Louisiana

17th – Manchester Deaf Institute

18th – Leeds Brudenell Social Club

Peggy Sue’s awesome new album ACROBATS is released on Wichita on September 12. You can preorder it here and I recommend that you do.

Alessi Laurent-Marke is one of our favourite people so we’re excited to hear that the new Alessi’s Ark LP “Time Travel” is set for release on 25th April on Bella Union records. You can download a free track ‘Wire’ from the album here.

She recorded half of it with us here in Brighton and we’re very proud to be a part of it.

Good news – you can now preorder the fantastic debut from The Climbers from the Willkommen shop here. They’ll ship as soon as we have them and this is the lowest price you’ll find.

The Climbers are the Department of Eagles to The Leisure Society’s Grizzly Bear – five years in gestation, the studio project began before songwriter Tim West got Nick Hemming and Christian Hardy together to form the band that became The Leisure Society. West plays a role like Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew or the early Brian Eno, writing beautiful songs then giving them to a vast cast of friends who have free reign to make their mark on them. Even lead vocals are shared by a handful of gifted collaborators, and often shared by the whole band.

Also copies will be available at the album launch show, June 2nd at Tamesis Dock, London. Facebook event here and tickets available here – this is selling fast now so buy in advance to avoid disappointment. The album is preceded by a single on May 24th, also called The Good Ship, available on iTunes for preorder shortly.

The Climbers album launch gig: Wednesday June 2nd at Tamesis Dock

We’re very pleased to announce that The Climbers will launch their debut album, The Good Ship, on a very good ship. Tamesis Dock is a converted, loveable, 1933 Dutch barge moored on the Thames between Vauxhall and Lambeth Bridge. It’s also a wonderful live music venue, especially during summer.

Tickets are priced at just £6 and are available at TicketWeb now. This will be the band’s first ever full live show. The album is released just two days before on Monday May 31st and is astounding. Exciting supports to be announced.

We are very excited to announce that we are now distributed by PIAS. They distribute pretty much all our favourite independent labels including XL, Domino, Warp, Matador, Rough Trade and 4AD – so we’re in very good company.

Our first new release with them will be the debut album from The Climbers, The Good Ship, on May 31st. It’ll be preceded by a digital single of the same name on May 24th.

We are pleased to announce that we will be releasing the fantastic debut album from Laish, The Love Written Down, later in 2010. To celebrate we’re giving away a free mp3 of Laish’s cover of The Sleeper, originally by The Leisure Society. Enjoy!
