Willkommen Records at The Great Escape: Sons of Noel and Adrian, Peggy Sue & Alessi’s Ark at Duke of York’s Picture House

friday 14 may
£7 advance, £8 on the night – doors at 11pm
Melting Vinyl &Willkommen
Records present…
Celebrating the dazzling array of talent affiliated with one of Brighton’s
most original record labels.
Sons of Noel & Adrian – 12.45am
Comprising of Willkommen Records’ founder members, ‘SONAA’
are diverse, ethereal, wild and incredibly compulsive. Winning fans
throughout the UK on their recent tours with Mumford and Sons
and The Leisure Society, the group have liberated themselves from the
constraints of society’s sonic status quo, and in doing so, have created
something truly inspirational. It shouldn’t be too long before the
dark longings of SONAA’s intoxicating brew of chamber music, folk
revivalism and hints of Americana begin to get the acclaim they deserve.

Peggy Sue – 12 midnight
Recent Witchita signings and Brighton favourites, Peggy Sue are Rosa
Rex and Katy Klaw from Brighton via London. Their friendship was
originally based on a mutual appreciation of teen film ‘Empire Records’
and an unspoken rivalry about their collections of Regina Spektor
bootlegs. Then in January 2006, Katy was offered a gig and asked Rosa
along to keep her company on stage and Peggy Sue was born. Olly Olly
Olly joined the band in 2008. ‘Fossils and other Phantoms’ – their debut
album (Witchita Recordings), produced by The Dodo’s producer John
Askew and Alex Newport (Death Cab for Cutie), encapulates Peggy
Sue’s sweet soulful pop sound and has rightly stolen the hearts of many.

Alessi’s Ark – 11.20pm
Bella Union’s Alessi dreams up authentic and beautifully warm folk,
combining fairytale songcraft and distinctive vocals, and has enthralled
audiences throughout the UK and beyond, receiving plaudits for some
stand out appearances at SXSW. The ‘Soul Proprietor’ EP (Produced by
Ben Lovett of Mumford and Sons) is a charming record by this fresh,
young British voice… Out now on Bella Union for your ears to joy!
