Free Christmas download – Willkommen Patchwerk

    Friday, December 21st, 2012

    patchwerk_heading

In the past we’ve created several collaborative Willkommen projects for free download over the Christmas period.

This year we asked as many Willkommen related artists as possible to simply contribute thirty seconds of sound. I stitched them together in the order in which they arrived to make a sonic patchwork quilt. The result is incredibly diverse and beautiful despite the random nature of its composition and form.

Thank you to the following people for contributing:

    Alessi Laurent-Marke (Alessi’s Ark)
    Woodpecker Wooliams
    Said Speaks
    Landshapes
    Marcus Hamblett
    Soccer96
    Eyes & No Eyes
    Hamilton Yarns
    Thomas Heather
    Danny Green (Laish)
    Gravenhurst
    John Smith
    Fiona Sally Miller
    Nick Hemming (The Leisure Society)
    This Is The Kit
    Rachael Dadd & Ichi
    Rozi Plain
    Birdengine
    Helen Whitaker (The Leisure Society)
    Steve Aston Trio
    Rowan Coupland
Turbo & Silke (Martha Rose / OCDC)
Jacob Richardson (Sons of Noel and Adrian)
    Emma Gatrill
    Chimes (Christian Hardy)
    Mary Hampton
    Alphabets Heaven
François Marry (François & the Atlas Mountains)

Here are a few links to past collaborative projects for free download on last.fm:

    Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012

Steve Lamacq announced the Woodpecker Wooliams single ‘Sparrow’ as one of three tracks that nearly made it onto the BBC Radio 6 playlist this week. As such, it’s part of a vote, open now until Sunday night. The track with the highest number of votes will be smashed all over the BBC6 airwaves next week hitting every daytime show. Please help out by voting for Woodpecker Wooliams here:  The Rebel Playlist.

And don’t forget about her two album launch shows:

07/09/12: The Vortex, London, with support from Eyes & No Eyes and Bronze Medallists
08/09/12: St Andrew’s Church, Brighton, with support from ? L ? w ? (super-group composed of Lawry Tillbury (Birdengine), Stuart Warwick and Kristin McClement)

    New Woodpecker Wooliams Tape

    Sunday, May 6th, 2012

Woodpecker Wooliams has a new release out via Love Lion (Chicago, USA)

It is a collaboration with OCDC (Rory Dickinson) – a tape cassette release of their soundtrack to independent German film Anni.

She’ll have copies soon for sale at gigs or it can be ordered from Love Lion or picked up from Reckless Records in Chicago.

“Anni brings to mind the atmospheric musings of…artists like Stars of the Lid or the most minimal moments Kraftwerk has to offer. Expect spy radio samples and enough latent emotion to make your bowels move unexpectedly. Fairly much the slowed down sound of a gory car-crash of the heart.”

Willkommen bands at the Alternative Escape including Eyes & No Eyes, Redwood Red, Emma Gatrill & Laish

    Monday, April 30th, 2012

It’s The Great Escape in Brighton next weekend (10th-12th May). There are many Willkommen related bands playing as part of the Alternative Escape on Friday and Saturday, thanks to our friends at Neighbourhood Music. These events are free to wristband-holders and “normals” alike.

Friday 11th May at the Fishbowl (Facebook event here) features Woodpecker Wooliams, Rozi Plain, Emma Gatrill, Eyes & No Eyes and The Mariner’s Children (solo). Plus many more great but less affiliated people including Hot Feet and Sam Brookes.

Saturday 12th May at the Hydrant (Facebook event here) features Redwood Red and Laish plus Emily & The Woods and more.

Both events start super early at midday so set your alarm for 10am latest so you can get some breakfast.
